Darya Baker, 21.5, is charged with felony counts of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon after a woman was shot by police on a street in St. Joseph, a town in St. Louis county.

A gun, some items and a tire iron were found inside Baker’s car following the shooting. Police also obtained a warrant for Baker’s home and searched it after receiving the first reported call, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Baker was arrested the night of her arrest, the paper said. Her bond was set at $700,000, according to the paper.

Baker told officers what happened immediately following the shooting, the newspaper said. She said the victim was involved in a car accident and that the two argued and she fired at the victim at least two times.

The St. Charles branch of the NAACP posted a statement praising the police handling of the incident.

“We look forward to the public release of the police report and all the other details that are crucial to fully understanding what occurred yesterday. We stand in solidarity with law enforcement, we commend them and we want the people of St. Louis to know that anyone who commits such a heinous murder cannot take the law in stride,” the statement said.

St. Louis City Police Chief Sam Dotson also issued a statement on Monday, thanking the officers who responded to the shooting.

“I have learned of the events that led to the death of a woman, Officer Darrawn Taylor, during a routine traffic stop and commend our officers for putting a stop to this senseless aggression and for saving the life of a young woman, Ms. Baker. We are deeply saddened by these events,” Dotson said.

It’s unknown how and why the victim was shot. She had been released from the hospital shortly before she died.

The St. Joseph Police Department said in a statement: “There is no evidence from the scene in relation to this shooting, but we remain determined to continue our aggressive investigation and take our cases to appropriate jurisdiction.”
